There's an intersection near me where everyone turns right. During rush hour, the turn lane backs up as far as the green arrow or longer. Now, I can forgive people who merge into the line during the yellow part. However, there are dozens of people who follow the red arrow all the way to the end, then either cut across the hash marks, force their way in at the last second, or stop traffic entirely while they wait for someone to let them in. Not only is it douchey; it's downright dangerous. This, of course, doesn't concern the DOT, as they keep telling me that there is no problem. We need some of those plastic bumps or a raised island in the hash mark area, and at least a couple hundred feet of those plastic poles to separate the turn lane toward the end. Not to mention heavier police presence at around 5:00 on weekdays, when it's at its worst. I've had a guy run the red light to cut me off in front of a cop... who did nothing.

Oh, and even though the road we turn onto is initially two lanes, the right lane ends almost immediately. So there's not room for them to be doing this and a two-lane turn is not an option.

Sometime this week I'm going to sit out there with my camera and take a shot of all of the worst offenders. Maybe then I can get something done.

Looks like they could fit a 2nd turn lane in there and make it a right turn on red only for the right lane. Put up a camera and ticket the people turning on red from the left lane to offset the cost of the paving/striping needed for an extra turn lane.

While I agree, if this really upsets you, you may want to think about never, ever driving in in the DMV. These types of shenanigans are all day, err-day here. Hell, just yesterday, I saw some guy in a SUV, stopped at green light, hazards on, and talking on the phone. He was reversing till I honked.

Takes too much energy to get pissed about stuff like this. Happens everywhere. Just leave extra cushion and let them ping pong off each other and the street vigilantes that block them.

Or maybe someone needs to dump a bunch of nails where the hash marks are...

It's times like these that I would love to have some sturdy beater commuter so I could give zero fucks and let them hit me.

Every once in a while I search CL for $4000 vehicles for rush hour battle.

I like the cut of your jib. I dream about using an armored h1 or h2.

My criteria when I look for these educations tools is simple.

Cheap

bolt-on metal bumpers.

Something that will take a little damage, and continue (since I would have no plan on repairing it, just collect the insurance check and repeat.)

Air conditioning.

Most of the time, they are all 90s full size trucks, but every once in a while there's a result that really, really makes sense.

You missed the part about how the right lane on the road being turned on-to ends shortly after making the turn. If not for that potential log jam, I would agree with your comment.

Another idea.

Get yourself some of this and place them in the hash marked area. That will probably teach a few of them.

Looks like it's about 3 lanes wide for a decent length... Maybe sacrifice some shoulder further down?

Except you'll never collect the insurance check...I've been hit twice by douchebags doing that. Evidently the kind of prick that does it has no idea how big their vehicle is, and they also have no qualms with lying their ass off to the insurance companies. Both times the accident was considered 'no fault' because our stories differed so greatly. Also because in California the police won't come to an accident to make a report unless someone is injured or you damaged state property.

I don't remember that part when I first read it. Ninja edit? Thus the "oh, and..." wording? Or I may have missed it. Either way it looks to me like there's enough room if they tried.

My passive-aggressive road rage fantasy includes a $1200 check.

A man can dream, can't he?

Sorry, forget I said anything. Continue fantasizing about that passive aggression...lol
